What Is A Contact Lens Exam?

A contact lens exam includes a comprehensive eye exam, vision prescription, and measurements of the eyes, iris, and pupils. Most people opt for contacts because they are comfortable, easy to care for, and provides excellent vision. Contact lenses also correct most refractive errors, such as astigmatism, nearsightedness, and farsightedness. Here is what a contact lens exam covers:

Comprehensive Eye Exam

A comprehensive eye exam allows our eye doctor to assess the health of your eyes and vision using a number of tests. A part of the exam is obtaining your health history while the rest is testing your visual acuity and determining if you have a refractive error.

Measurement

After our optometrist has conducted a few vision tests, measurements of your cornea, pupils, and iris are taken. The measurements make sure that the contact lens fits perfectly in your eye. Any calculation off could lead to eye discomfort, problems to the surface of the eye, or affect your vision. Taking measurements of your eyes is an important part of the contact lens fitting process.

Tear Film Test

Our optometrist will conduct test that checks your eyes’ tear production. This test also determines if you have dry eyes. The process is simple. It involves our doctor inserting a strip of paper underneath your lower eyelid. After a few minutes, the paper is removed from your eyelid, and the tears are assessed by our eye doctor.

Choosing the Right Contact Lenses

At our clinic, we offer a wide variety of contact lenses you can decide if you want disposable daily or monthly, extended wear lenses, soft lenses, or rigid lenses.

At the end of the exam, you will be given a trial pair. In a week, you will return to see our optometrist. During this time, we can make any adjustments to your lenses. We want to make sure that your contacts fits perfectly both in comfort and clarity.
